7 Reasons Buying Refurbished Laptops Is the Same or Better than Buying New
21
June

Almost 8 out of every 10 adults own a laptop or desktop commuter. That widespread use, even in the face of growing mobile device popularity, is why companies like Dell, Lenovo, HP and more continue manufacturing and innovating computers for consumers.

For many looking to get a new computer, particularly a laptop, their primary concern is price.

While laptops come in a wide variety of price brackets, people buying them typically want a laptop with excellent battery life. They also want one that can handle the same applications their desktop can.

How then can one get a quality laptop at a good price?

The answer is going refurbished.

Buying refurbished laptops come with many advantages over buying both new and used. To help educate you on the unique nature of buying refurbished laptops, our team has written out 7 advantages you’ll get with your refurbished purchase!

1. Savings

There’s no greater advantage to going with a refurbished laptop than the money you’ll save. Refurbished computers typically come back to manufacturers from consumers who bought the computers new and experienced some sort of malfunction.

These computers are then diagnosed and restored back to their original working condition and then, since they can’t be marketed as “new" anymore, are sold at a deep discount as refurbished.

Therefore, you can buy a computer that is almost brand new (minus some slight battery depreciation and possible cosmetic quirks) for significantly cheaper than a new computer would cost you.

You can then use your savings to buy yourself the latest computer accessories, software, or a number of other upgrades!

2. Expandability

One of the coolest parts about laptops is the fact that, if you’re tech-savvy, you can crack one open and expand its functionality by installing new hardware.

So, if you’re looking for a cheap functioning computer base that you can install expanded RAM a new HDD and more into, buying that base refurbished can be a great idea.

With a refurbished laptop, you can be sure that all of your laptop’s core components will be functions correctly. Given that you paid so little for those core components, you can then invest your savings in new parts to build yourself a powerful discount laptop!

3. Warranty

When people think of refurbishment, they often think used. When they think used, they think that their product is not guaranteed.

While not having a warranty or guarantee with a used product is common, the same is not true with refurbished products. When buying refurbished laptops, you can be sure that you’ll get anywhere from a 90 day to 1-year guarantee.

That’s similar to what you’d get with a brand new computer!

Many times, shady retailers will market their used products as refurbished to instill false confidence in consumers. If you ask if the refurbished product comes with a warranty and the retailer says no, you’ll want to steer clear of the product as it’s likely just used.

4. Certification

Not all degrees of refurbishing are equal. Technically, any laptop that has a health check and gets its issues patched could technically qualify.

Therefore, to make sure you’re getting the best type of refurbished quality, always keep an eye out for certified refurbished laptops. With certified refurbished laptops, you know that your laptop got seen by or had its work approved by the computer’s manufacturer.

This adds an extra layer of assurances that you’re getting a working laptop at a tremendous value!

5. Fully Updated

New computers could sit on shelves for months or even years before they make their way into your home. That means, when you open the box, there are a ton of updates and potential compatibility issues you may need to deal with.

With a refurbished laptop, the device’s manufacturer has inspected the laptop recently. That means, the OS and other core software are 100% updated and ready to go out of the box!

6. Less Bloat

When you buy a new laptop, you’ll notice that there are a lot of games and applications that you didn’t download and aren’t necessary pre-installed on your computer. This software is known as “bloatware" and it can slow your computer down and eat its hard drive space.

When buying refurbished laptops, in many cases, manufacturers strip all unnecessary applications from the device to optimize its performance. What that means for you are fewer struggles with annoying applications you don’t care about and a more streamlined experience.

7. Environmentally Friendly

The reality of our world is that landfills are overflowing with electronic devices. Factories are producing new things by the millions while consumers toss out their perfectly good old things.

To help reduce the impact this consumer cycle has on the planet, buy refurbished. Purchasing refurbished laptops means giving an electronic device a second life. It means keeping it out of a landfill for a few more years and that one less new computer needed to get made.

So, do your bit for the planet and save some money at the same time. Consider going refurbished.

Wrapping Up the Benefits of Buying Refurbished Laptops

Buying refurbished laptops present a variety of advantages to consumers. Some of them are in lockstep with what you’d get with new computers. Others exceed their new computer counterparts.

In summary, with a refurbished laptop, you’ll get a streamlined computer straight out of the box. It will cost you less money and come in at a lower cost to the environment.

With advantages like that, you’d be crazy to not at least consider refurbished next time you’re in the market for a laptop!

Am new to the area having problems with tower computer at the time. Was advised to seek a locally owned business doing computer repair. I did and chose Community Computer Services in Alexandria, Ky. 41001. Did diagnostics as I was thinking problem with hard drive. Wasn't which was great price wise. Was able to clear out all viruses and malware. Saved my pictures and other personal folders and reloaded to computer. Also installed free virus and malware programs. Runs fast!! Also they gave me a week to use to see if incurred any problems. I did not!!! While taking care of tower computer explained how slow my laptop was. So brought it in. Was going to do diagnostics see what problem was. He told me it would be like a new computer. Advised me to use chrome. He saved my files and reloaded them so where I didn't lose anything. Also downloaded the free virus protection and malware. The laptop is brand new to me. It is fantastic!!!! So fast it has to wait on me. My computer quit working just as my wife was in the middle of using it for Vacation Bible School last night. She was panicking. I began to look online and saw Community Computers near where I live. I checked the reviews and it had a great rating. I called this morning and explained my situation. I was told to bring my laptop in and he would see what he could do. When I took it in I also shared with him another issue I had been experiencing, my wireless connection was not working . He said he would really try to find out the issue so we would have it for Bible School. About 2 1/2 hours later he called to give the good news that the problem was just a bad cord. When picking it up he also told me he gave it a good checking over and tried to repair my non wireless connection for over an hour. He then told me instead of trying to go into the laptop to change a chip which could be costly, he sent me to Staples for a solution of a $30.00 wireless adapter. I was very impressed with my experience Community Computers. I would encourage anyone who has computer issues to check them out. You will not be disappointed. Also, the price I paid was very reasonable.read more
