Tips on how to speed up your internet
10
May

There can be many factors to sift through If you are experiencing slow internet. The first step would be to do an internet speed test. If you are using Cincinnati Bell Fioptics use this test. Make sure that the speed adds up to what you are paying for from your internet provider.

We suggest that you reset your Wi-Fi router. You just need to turn off and on your router. It does not sound like much, but it clears out and refreshes all your router settings.

The next thing to look into is what anti-virus you are using. Norton, MacAfee, and Kaspersky seem to really slow down the computer and internet resources. We would suggest removing any anti-virus programs that you have and download a free version of AVG. This program works great and does not slow down the computer. It’s usually the firewall’s that slow down computers. A firewall prevents hackers from hacking into your computer, but the problem is that is not where we get all of our problems from. We get problems by going to websites and downloading things that have been infected.

A lot of factors with internet issues besides things mentioned above is your browser. There are many to choose from these days, such as Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome. We will show you how to do this with Google Chrome. First, you should reset your settings. Below is step by step instructions on how to do this.

In the upper right corner, you should see a circle or 3 dashes to indicate settings. Click on this and scroll down to bottom of the page. You will then click on advanced, then scroll down to the bottom of the page. Here you will find an option to reset. This will reset all Google Chrome settings to defaults. A lot of malicious and unwanted files get into the browser and slow the internet down. See Below for instructions.

Next step would be to download Malwarebytes. It is a free malware removal program that you can scan your system with. It is a great program, and if there is malware in your pc, it will allow you to remove them.

Another great program to run is Adwcleaner. This by far the best program to scan for adware. Adware is similar to malware and viruses but mostly affects your browser and internet speed.

After doing these steps if you still are having an issues chances are it is with your internet service. If you have your files backed up, you can always run a factory reinstall to bring all windows files back to factory settings. We suggest this as a last resort.

You can always bring your computer to us, and we will perform our virus/malware removal service

Am new to the area having problems with tower computer at the time. Was advised to seek a locally owned business doing computer repair. I did and chose Community Computer Services in Alexandria, Ky. 41001. Did diagnostics as I was thinking problem with hard drive. Wasn't which was great price wise. Was able to clear out all viruses and malware. Saved my pictures and other personal folders and reloaded to computer. Also installed free virus and malware programs. Runs fast!! Also they gave me a week to use to see if incurred any problems. I did not!!! While taking care of tower computer explained how slow my laptop was. So brought it in. Was going to do diagnostics see what problem was. He told me it would be like a new computer. Advised me to use chrome. He saved my files and reloaded them so where I didn't lose anything. Also downloaded the free virus protection and malware. The laptop is brand new to me. It is fantastic!!!! So fast it has to wait on me. I would recommend anyone having computer problems to see Community Computer Services immediately. Very reasonable, courteous and explained things to me where I could understand. My computer quit working just as my wife was in the middle of using it for Vacation Bible School last night. She was panicking. I began to look online and saw Community Computers near where I live. I checked the reviews and it had a great rating. I called this morning and explained my situation. I was told to bring my laptop in and he would see what he could do. When I took it in I also shared with him another issue I had been experiencing, my wireless connection was not working . He said he would really try to find out the issue so we would have it for Bible School. About 2 1/2 hours later he called to give the good news that the problem was just a bad cord. When picking it up he also told me he gave it a good checking over and tried to repair my non wireless connection for over an hour. He then told me instead of trying to go into the laptop to change a chip which could be costly, he sent me to Staples for a solution of a $30.00 wireless adapter. I was very impressed with my experience Community Computers. I would encourage anyone who has computer issues to check them out. You will not be disappointed. Also, the price I paid was very reasonable.read more
