Bye Bye Battery: The Top Signs You Need to Replace Your Mac Battery

Do you suspect that your Macbook might be on its last legs?

If so, you’re free to run out and buy a brand-new MacBook if you want. But unfortunately, it’ll cost you more than $1,200 in most cases to get your hands on one of Apple’s latest laptops. And it could cost even more than that if you go with one of the higher-end options.

Before you buy a new MacBook, you should see if you can get a little more life out of your old one. One easy way to do it is by replacing your Mac battery. This simple step will often make your laptop run more efficiently and allow you to use it like you did when you first bought it.

Here are 5 signs that will let you know it’s time to replace your Mac battery.

1. Your Mac Battery Won’t Hold a Charge

When you first purchased your MacBook, you could walk around using it all day without worrying about putting it into its charger. New MacBooks have plenty of life in them and won’t require you to stay tethered to your charger at all times.

As your MacBook gets older, though, it’ll start to last for shorter and shorter periods of time when you use it while it’s not on its charger. There might even be some instances when your battery life percentage falls from 100 percent to 50 percent in a matter of just a few minutes.

This can be frustrating for MacBook owners. It can limit their mobility when they’re on their MacBooks and make it feel like they pretty much have desktop computers.

If you’re dealing with this at the moment, you should replace your Mac battery right away and see if that fixes the problem. There is a chance that certain programs on your MacBook could be putting your battery in a chokehold and forcing it to drain quicker than it should. But more often than not, Mac batteries are to blame for their own bad battery life.

2. It Won’t Charge Back Up

Is your Mac battery not charging at all when you put it onto your charger?

This is yet another problem that plagues many MacBook users. They expect their batteries to recharge when they hook them up to their chargers for an extended period of time but come back to find that their MacBooks are still almost dead when they want to use them again.

This can make it impossible to use your MacBook without a charger. It can also leave you living in fear of what might happen if your MacBook ever happens to disconnect from your charger. Will you lose whatever you’re working on and be forced to start over from scratch?

Stop living in constant fear and have your Mac battery replaced. It’ll give you a chance to start charging it up like normal again.

3. It’s Been Through Too Many Charging Cycles

Despite the high cost of MacBook computers, MacBook batteries are not designed to last forever. In fact, they’re only built to last for a few years in most cases.

While each MacBook is a little bit different, the newer Mac batteries will continue to hold a charge for about 1,000 charging cycles. A single charging cycle takes place when you charge your battery fully and then allow it to drain down to empty before charging it again.

Apple knows that most MacBook users don’t have the time to sit and keep a consistent count of how many charging cycles their computers go through. So they make it easy for people to check on how many charging cycles their MacBooks have experienced.

Follow these steps to see how many charging cycles your computer has racked up over the years:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the top left-hand corner of your screen
  2. Select “About This Mac" from the dropdown menu
  3. Click on the “System Report" button that appears on your screen
  4. Select “Power" from the sidebar that shows up on the left-hand side of the box
  5. Look under “Health Information" to where it says “Cycle Count"

By taking these steps, you can see how many charging cycles your MacBook has accumulated. Apple also lists the “Condition" of a Mac battery right under “Cycle Count." It’ll often say “Replace Soon" or “Replace Now" in reference to an old battery.

4. It Causes Random Shutdowns

Does your MacBook shut down at times without any warning? This could be caused by any number of things.

In some cases, there might be a program on your computer that is causing the shutdowns to occur. But there might also be a problem with your battery that is preventing your MacBook from running as it normally would.

By replacing your battery, you can prevent your MacBook from continuing to shut down on you out of nowhere. It’ll end the frustration that often accompanies random shutdowns in the middle of projects.

5. It Seems to Be Overheating

Just like with random shutdowns, your MacBook might get into the habit of overheating for a number of reasons. It could be a hardware or software issue causing your computer to overheat.

But some MacBooks will start to overheat on a regular basis once their batteries get to be on the older side. The only way to stop them from overheating is to put a new battery in place.

So far, it hasn't been that great. I took a laptop in almost 2 weeks ago and... haven't heard back from them. When I went in to drop it off, it was like they were getting ready to go out of business. The young guy who took my laptop said he would call me and hasn't yet. I know that we have had 2 weeks of holidays, but other businesses are open again. He made sure he got my $45 first though. I'm surprised by all of this, because I've gotten great service when the father was there. In this guy's response, he says that he can't get a hold of me. What he fails to mention is that he wrote my number down wrong and didn't check his caller ID from when I called last Monday or when I left a message the week before. I left a message last week and he never called me back then either. When he did finally found my number, he chewed me out for everything. He never confirmed anything about the computer, yet acts like he did. So my number is not out of service, but I will not be a customer of theirs more

My computer quit working just as my wife was in the middle of using it for... Vacation Bible School last night. She was panicking. I began to look online and saw Community Computers near where I live. I checked the reviews and it had a great rating. I called this morning and explained my situation. I was told to bring my laptop in and he would see what he could do. When I took it in I also shared with him another issue I had been experiencing, my wireless connection was not working . He said he would really try to find out the issue so we would have it for Bible School. About 2 1/2 hours later he called to give the good news that the problem was just a bad cord. When picking it up he also told me he gave it a good checking over and tried to repair my non wireless connection for over an hour. He then told me instead of trying to go into the laptop to change a chip which could be costly, he sent me to Staples for a solution of a $30.00 wireless adapter. I was very impressed with my experience Community Computers. I would encourage anyone who has computer issues to check them out. You will not be disappointed. Also, the price I paid was very more
